Help?!

Spring Break is coming up for the kiddos..It's always the same week in March..why March, I don't know, but it is..Acually, I think they plan it for the same week as the Houston Rodeo..

Anyway, it's coming up and I can't wait!  So the Hus aka Le Big Mann and I are trying to plan a long weekend trip (with the kiddos)..We have narrowed it down to two destinations..both within driving distance of about 6 hours..The Hus is dreading taking a mini road trip with the kiddos..but me..I love me some road trips..

Destination # 1

South Padre Island, Texas

Sun, Sand, Surf, Margaritas, Mexico..

Destination # 2

New Orleans, LA

Charm, Cajun, Cuisine, History

So I have some questions for ya..Will ya help a sista out..

Which would you choose?

Which one do you think is more family friendly?

Have you ever been to either place?

They're both so different..both have a lot to offer..I can't decide!!  Help?!

*Oh and I have one more question for ya..Do you ever unfollow blogs and if so..what makes you unfollow? I don't..just sayin'!*

Thanks! (in advance)

I've never been to either place, but looking at the pictures I would choose South Padre Island. I love the beach and I love to see children playing in the sand having fun.

MannMom3 said...

Yeah..it would probably be more fun for the kiddos..but it would HAVE to be warm..if it wasn't warm..I would be sad..

I would choose the island! IF the weather is typically warm there that time of year. I mean I dont know how the weather normally is down there in those parts.. but the beach is no fun if you cant enjoy the warm sunshine. So I would be cheaking into the weather down there before deciding. I have never been to new orleans but have always wanted to go. Not sure if it is a fam. friendly place or not.. so I am not really much help on that one.

Either place I think will be a blast!! Let us know what you choose :)

PS no I dont usually unfollow blogs.. if something loses my interest i usually just quit going to read.. but thats just me

Thats a hard decision. I have never been to either one of them, but Padre Island sure looks nice. I don't know about being at either place during spring break though?? Aren't these places where all the college kids head to?

I forgot to answer your last question. I only unfollow, if they have not blogged in quite a few months, or I leave several comments and never get a response.

I have been to NO, and I don't think it is very family friendly for little kiddos. lots of art, history, music and the food is amazing. but your little guys may not think that stuff is fun? maybe i'm wrong?

the beach sounds great to me!

Oh Id choose the margaritas! I think Texas would be more kid friendly, but I have never been to New Orleans so I can't say that for sure!

On the blog question, I don't unfollow but if they have not blogged in awhile I take them off my reading list.
Happy Thursday!

Which would you choose?

Texas

Which one do you think is more family friendly?

Texas. New Orleans, from what I hear is more of an adult venue.

Have you ever been to either place?

No

Unfollow blogs? No. I just don't list all the blogs I follow on my blogroll. I have yours :) Why, you planning on unfollowing me??? :(

I'll tell you about NOLA after we go - but I did see some stuff saying it was not too kid friendly. But as someone said So. Padre Is. is a destination for spring breakers, so maybe that isn't the best either....

MannMom3 said...

I've heard there's lots of stuff for kiddos in New Orleans..hmmm..

South Padre..is a sprig break destination..but most beachy places are during spring break..hmmm

I still don't know.

Ian..I will never unfollow you!

Okay...I have been to both. I would definitely say Texas with the little ones...because the water is warm (I hate cold water) and the atmosphere is very relaxed. As for wanting to go into Mexico - good luck!! It doesn't take long to get there, but getting back into the states can take as many as 5 hours - depending on traffic - because of the boarder patrol...and everyone has to have a passport now. Booooooooo!!!!

I would pick #1, it could be that I have heard that New Orleans is not very kid friendly & dirty... or could it be that im from MN & have sore spot for New Orleans right now? (sundays Vikes game) Maybe...but I have never been.
I LOVE the beach for a vac... nothing is better than warm weather and relaxin.

*I do unfollow others, bloggers that only update once a week or their topics dont interest me & I LOVE pics.... but I wont unfollow you! :)

Ive been to both places and i guarantee you would rather go to the beach than New Orleans with your kids! New Orleans is fun but not really much fun for little kids, more of a trip you should take with your hubby another time! Have fun!

I think you should go camping at Huntsville State Park.

Amy O'Connor said...

Actually, the camping sounds better to me, but that's just me.

I do NOT like the beach, but that's just me. I won't wear a swim suit and there are fish and stuff in the water. They could get near me and that would scare the bejeejeez out of me. Although, NO probably isn't as kid friendly. People in NO do have kids, though so I'm sure they have something fun for them.

So, probably Padre for you guys, but I'd do my research on NO too.

I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but spring break at any "vacation spot" doesn't sound like too much fun to me... I keep imagining crazy college kids everywhere. But maybe that's just my jealousy talking since we won't be going anywhere ;-)
You'll have fun wherever you go! I love road trips too.

I have never been to PI. Soapy has. He says as long as it's not college spring break too....he's been for spring break. He says @ that pt it may not offer the wholesome family atmosphere. I have been to NO but it was the summer after I graduated high school and pre-Katrina. I know we had a lot of fun but we were older and were into the art. I believe they have a really fun childrens museum if I remember correctly. The riverwalk was fun. I don't know about our kids' ages though....I would look into what they have there first.
I don't unfollow unless the tone of the blog gets to be outside my moral character. If topics start turning negative and brass...I might. If it's just not one that has something great on it, I may just not check into reading it all that much.
Wish we could get together for spring break! I was just thinking about our s.b. and wanting to find a way out of the cold. Esp today as it's snowing and butt freezing cold!

Lived in Louisanan and been to New Orleans and I would not take my kids there except to there Zoo and that is about it. The zoo at one time was wonderful. Everything wlse is geared for adults I think.

I choose the other place.

I bet the beach would be more family friendly but oh what fun it would be to spent the weekend in New Orleans!!! That is a hard call!

Well, as a fellow Texan I would go with South Padre. Jason has been there for work a few times and I have friends that have gone. Apparently it's really fun! But, it will definitely be a BIG Spring Break destination and you may be bombarded by college kids.

New Orleans is fun, but it still hasn't recovered from Katrina. You have to be very careful of where you go, apparently there are very dangerous areas right off of Bourbon Street. Jason goes here for work often, and has said he does not feel safe there. Also, be aware that Mardi Gras/St. Patrick's Day crowds may still be there as well.

What about renting a cabin in Hill Country and spending time in Austin? Or going out to San Antonio and hittin' up The Riverwalk, Sea World and Six Flags? Those could be fun, too! And probably less likely to be flooded by Spring Breakers.

i vote for california.. .huntington beach to be exact... it could be a 30th bday present for me from you! you know you want to! ;-)

Are you kidding me??? South Padre Island, of course! Sand, sun, beach...what more do you need??? No, I've never been there but I would if I could!

I've never been to either, but you cannot compare with that picture of the beach!! Although I agree with Jenny's comment that spring break time can be a little chaotic. We used to live in Florida, and it was nuts there for that week...unless you know of a little secret secluded beach area because you are one of the "locals." ;)

I'm thinking South Padre Island is the way to go!!!! I'm a new Friday follower! :)

Either place looks beautiful, I would be very happy visiting either. New follower this Friday. I don't un-follow it just causes hurt feelings (I think). I know that first few times I noticed I was un-followed I wondered why or what I said!

I have been New Orleans and although I adored the city, I didn't find the attractions to be very "family friendly". I was there with a group of friends and it was perfect for that kind of vacation. I want to take my kids there for the history and educational portion of it, but I want to wait til they are a little older.

I would pick the beach. You can never go wrong with a beach trip!

I don't unfollow either. I may not comment on every post, but I sit with my laptop in bed and read EVERY blog I follow in Google reader!

I am going to read some more of your blog and become your next follower!

Have a wonderful weekend!

I would choose New Orleans...sounds like fun!

New Orleans is an awesome place. Tons of history and culture and DELICIOUS food. They have a great zoo [well, I think so because it's the biggest zoo close to me] and the aquarium. I hear the aquarium is awesome but I haven't been since an elementary school field trip.

It's can be kid friendly, if you go to the right places. Really, just Bourbon Street isn't kid friendly. The French Quarter is really entertaining though. With people selling art on the sidewalk and the street performers.

I think you and the kids could have a blasty in New Orleans.

Okay, I missed this post, but just gotta give my input!
I lived in Corpus for several years, and frequented South Padre.
I've also been to N'awlens.
I honestly wouldn't take my girls to New Orleans for Spring Break, just because of things I've heard. But, if you go, be sure to make phone contact with the places you plan on visiting. I know it's been years since Katrina, but we were in Biloxi a couple years ago, and most of the hotels & casinos were still closed. Not everything has been rebuilt.
South Padre would be my choice, but I would search for a Hotel on the beach that offered private beach areas for guests only. SB in Padre gets a little wild.
While you're there, be sure to eat at The Black Diamond Oyster Bar. It is by FAR the best seafood restaurant in Texas!

Have fun!
